Leather MacBook Pro Cases Featuring Our Ethically Sourced Hides
It's been called the "The Greatest Laptop Case Ever Designed". When MacCase Chief Creative Officer Michel Santoro created the MacCase Flight Jacket in 2008 he was not aware he was creating an icon, one of the most memorable and best-reviewed leather MacBook Pro cases ever. Drawing inspiration from the American West, Santoro penned a laptop case that manages to look classic and modern at the same time. The vertical orientation makes it one of the most comfortable leather MacBook Pro cases you'll ever wear. Our ethically sourced leather and vegetable-based dyes make it a purchase you can feel good about.
The latest cases, covers, bags, and sleeves offer much-needed protection for the Apple laptop's sleek, aluminum body. However, with the many options out there, it can be quite challenging to find the best product that protects your technology and complements your lifestyle. Read the post above to get sage advice on how to choose the best MacBook Pro case to fit your lifestyle.
Our Legendary MacBook Pro Case Turns 10
Today we are talking with Michael Santoro, President and Chief Creative Officer of MacCase on the 10th anniversary of the launch of the company's most iconic leather MacBook Pro case design, the MacCase Flight Jacket.
JKD: As a designer who's had a lot of success throughout your career, what does this 10th anniversary of the MacCase Flight Jacket mean to you?
MS: As a designer, no matter what the product, you wish and hope for programs and outcomes like what has happened with this design. It's amazing to think this MacBook Pro case is still going strong after a decade.
JKD: After living with it and being around it for so long, is there anything you would change about these MacBook Pro cases?
MS: There is nothing I would change about the proportion. It's right for all time. The different sizes proportion out differently. The best-looking version is, funny to say, for the 11" Air model. But they all contain the basic design proportion that still resonates today.
I was never a big fan of the 17" model when we were making that. It was just too unwieldy. A computer that large was difficult to wear on one's hip. So it's no surprise the case felt the same way.
17" users loved it though. And to this day we get inquiries from 17" users wanting to buy a 17" Flight Jacket or have us make a new one as part of our Custom Program. Which we all do, by the way.
Back to your question about the current generation of leather MacBook Pro cases, we have tweaked the design over the years. These changes were very subtle but made the product more durable. They also made it easier to use and increased the functionality, that sort of thing.
That's why you see customers who have a Flight Jacket that is 8 or 9 or even 10 years old now. The design has evolved. We've improved it over the years and made it better. It's amazing and part of the reason I'm so proud of it.
MacBook Leather Bags
JKD: Do you have any other iconic MacBook leather bags up your sleeve?
MS: Yes, as soon as you bring me that App where I can push a button and a timeless design pops right out! This program had so many elements come together at the same time to allow a design like this to happen. That's rare. Those are the ones you wait for. You try to align as many of those elements as you can on every program you do. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. This time, it worked.
The designs I am working on now are the best work I have done from a creative, problem-solving standpoint since the Flight Jacket cases were released. They solve so many problems like all of our MacBook leather bags do, in a way that is elegant, beautiful and I hope timeless. Time will, of course, tell.
JKD: Can you tell us about the other MacBook Pro leather bags you offer?
MS: Sure. Currently, we have 2 other models other than the Flight Jackets that make up our MacBook Pro leather bags. The Flight Case which is our fully structured leather briefcase was a response to customers asking for a larger version of the Flight Jacket.
The Flight Case looks like the Flight Jacket's big brother. It's everything great about the Flight Jacket, just more of it, especially more room. If you need to carry multiple devices, or a laptop and a 3 ring binder, this is the case you want. It has a larger storage pouch option that is very popular.
Lastly, the Grand Career Tote is one of the unsung, yet great leather MacBook bags we offer. It's the unheralded product in our line. Women who have purchased one of them absolutely love them. It's one of the few bags in our entire line that can do it all.
It's beautiful and functional. The design can go up against any of the handbags from the best houses in Europe, yet it can hold a 16-inch MacBook Pro and everything else they need to carry better than any of them can ever hope to. If you're looking for a women's business tote, it's worth a long look.
FAQ -
Should I get a MacBook Pro case?
Yes, and here's why. Apple builds the most expensive products of its kind. They also have the highest resale value. Protecting your technology investment with a high-quality, intelligently designed case is low-cost insurance and guarantees you a higher resale value at trade-in time.
What case should I get for my MacBook Pro?
The MacBook Pro case that you should get is the one that best meets and exceeds your individual needs. While each person may have different needs, all MacBook Pro cases should provide protection. How the case protects, the materials used and the overall style will define your case.
What is the best protective case for the MacBook Air?
The best MacBook Air case is the one that meets or exceeds your individual needs. Things to consider when shopping for an Air case is the amount of protection you require, the materials, (leather or man-made), who it’s made by, how you interact with it and the overall style.
Can a MacBook Pro case fit a MacBook Air?
It depends on the type of case. A soft-sided, cut and sew sleeve or shoulder bag type of case should fit both. A clip-on style, hardshell case will probably not be compatible due to the nature of being molded specifically for the dimensions of the Air vs. the Pro.
Do MacBook cases fit other laptops?
Many PC laptops are close in size to Apple laptops. Because of this, cases designed for the MacBook will fit other laptops. For instance, the MacCase Premium Leather 13” Flight Jacket and 13” MacBook Sleeve perfectly fit the 13” Microsoft Surface Pro. Check the size of your laptop and the size of the case for compatibility.
How much does a MacBook case cost?
A Macbook case can cost anywhere from a low of around $10.0 for a cheap, low-quality sleeve up to several hundred dollars for a well-designed, well-made bag. Given the expense of an Apple laptop to begin with, it's cheap insurance to purchase a high-quality case to protect it.
