Protecting your iPad with a cover is a smart choice, and here's why. While there are scenarios where an iPad case might not be deemed necessary, several situations call for the added safeguard that iPad folios provide.

When the iPad first launched, it was a one-size-fits-all type of modern marvel. But now, over a decade after the first generation launched, Apple tablets come in an array of different sizes and models and so do their covers. A 13 iPad Pro case or an 11 iPad Air case will be much different than a cover for the Mini.

You can't just go out and buy any ole cover for i Pad anymore. You need to get a protective iPad case that fits your specific model.

Does My iPad Need a Cover?

Many Apple tablet users struggle with the question of whether magnetic iPad smart covers are safe. Smart covers that contain magnets are safe to use with your Apple tablet.

If someone is debating whether to put a cover on their Apple tablet, it can be quite overwhelming if you take a look at the available options. Lightweight covers, rugged 13 iPad Pro cases or iPad Pro 11 cases with Pencil holders are just some of the offerings.

Features and Functionality

A good iPad case can do so much more than keep your device safe. A folio style cover can include everything from a stand to hold your device upright to a full keyboard. Tablet covers beyond the folio style can also include additional features like storage compartments and shoulder straps.

Before you make your final selection, make sure the cover you choose includes all the extra features you'll need to get the most out of your device. But we're getting ahead of ourselves. This purpose of this article is to answer they question of whether you need an iPad case at all.

If You Need a Cover, Make It One That Lasts

The short answer: yes, your iPad needs a cover, unless it never leaves your coffee table. But here's the real question: do you want a $30 cover that falls apart in 6 months, or a cover that lasts as long as you own your Apple tablet?

Your iPad Pro cost $800-$1,500. Your iPad Air cost $600-$900. Protecting that investment with a cheap folio that will have broken hinges, peeling covers, and failed magnets within months doesn't make sense.

MacCase has been designing iPad covers since the original iPad launched in 2010. We've protected every generation of Apple tablet and we've learned what actually lasts: premium materials, precision engineering, and construction that survives years of daily use.

Premium Leather iPad Folios

Our Premium Leather iPad Folios use ethically sourced, full-grain, vegetable-tanned leather that develops a rich patina over time rather than looking worn out. Precision-fit for your specific iPad model, whether you own an iPad Pro 13" M5, iPad Pro 11" M5, iPad Air 13", or iPad Air 11".

Each handmade design features a built-in stand for typing and viewing. precise cutouts for cameras, ports, and buttons, and a magnetic closure that actually stays closed. This isn't bonded leather or "vegan leather". This is the same quality leather used in luxury goods and comes with a lifetime warranty.

For those who need maximum impact protection, people like students, field workers, those on construction sites, or anyone with kids, the MacCase Polycarbonate/TPU Folio Cases combine hard-shell protection with shock-absorbing edges.

This is where military-grade drop protection meets everyday functionality. They feature integrated stands, full access to all iPad features, and protection that handles rough use. Built for environments where a leather folio would be overkill, but a cheap case would be inadequate.

Each design has a secure place to store the Apple Pencil and extended, impact-absorbing corners for that extra level of protection.

The math: Replace a $30 folio every 6-12 months = $150-300 over 5 years. Buy one MacCase folio that lasts as long as you own your Apple tablet = one purchase, better protection, saves time and money.

Let's take a look at why you might want one.

Do I Need an iPad Cover?

An iPad cover can provide many benefits. These include protecting the screen, protecting the tablet from impact and scratches and improving your grip. If you feel that these will improve your experience of using your Apple tablet, then a cover might be a good idea.

Let's explore this further.

Screen Protection

iPads, featuring expansive and often delicate touchscreens, are particularly vulnerable to scratches and damage. A cover, especially one with a built-in screen protector, ensures your screen remains pristine and responsive.

Everyday Commute

If you're a student, professional, or anyone commuting with your Apple tablet, the device can get jostled, bumped, or exposed to the elements. The best iPad covers shield your tablet from accidental knocks, spills, and daily wear and tear.

Outdoor Adventures

For those using iPads in outdoor or rugged environments, covers become indispensable. They protect against dirt, dust, and even minor drops, making your device adventure-ready.

Enhanced Grip

iPad cases and covers often come with textured surfaces, which can significantly improve your grip on the device. This is especially beneficial during extended usage or if you're prone to accidental drops.

Child-Friendly

If your Apple tablet is shared with children, a protective iPad back cover can save you from costly repairs due to accidents. These back covers are simple, basic safeguards but are built to withstand rough handling and clumsy drops.

Travel and Mobility

Traveling with your Apple tablet requires protection from both the rigors of travel and potential theft. A top iPad Pro case or folio can provide both the convenience of a compact design and the necessary protection.

However, it's worth noting that in some scenarios, you may not need an iPad case. For example, if you mainly use your iPad at home in a controlled, safe environment, you might opt for a sleek and minimalist approach. In this case, a sleeve or a simple cover to protect the screen when not in use can be sufficient.

Protect Your iPad the Right Way

Whether you choose a premium leather folio, protective polycarbonate case, or a sleeve for transport, make sure your iPad cover is built to last as long as your iPad.

Should I Put a Cover on My iPad?

The decision to use a cover on your iPad hinges on how and where you use your device. Assess your daily usage and environment to determine the level of protection your Apple portable requires. If you feel the risk of damage is high, a cover might be a good investment.

It would be very hard to transport your iPad unprotected and not damage it in some way. Think about the environment you'll be moving through and how you'll be carrying your tablet. This will help you figure out if you need a case or cover and the level of protection you'll need.

Someone working in a law office will need a different level of protection than some working on a construction site everyday. A cover's primary purpose is to keep your iPad safe from damage. No matter how pretty an iPad cover may be, the best case will first and foremost protect.

Screen Covers

Your iPad smart case or cover should be sturdy enough to protect your tablet in the environment you plan on using it in. Loose or flimsy Apple tablet screen covers are usually great for protecting the screen of your Apple tablet from scratches, however won’t protect it from a fall.

Whether you're an on-the-go professional, an outdoor enthusiast, or just someone who values their device's pristine condition, there's a protective iPad cover to match your specific needs.
