What Makes a Protective iPad Pro Case?
Polycarbonate (PC): The Hard Shell
Polycarbonate is a high-performance rigid plastic used in eyewear lenses, automotive headlamp housings, and protective helmets. In an iPad Pro case, it forms the hard outer shell that resists impacts, deflects drops, and prevents scratches. Lightweight despite its strength, polycarbonate maintains the slim profile of your iPad Pro M4 or M5 without adding unnecessary bulk.
TPU: The Shock Absorber
Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) is a flexible, rubber-like material used in medical devices, sporting equipment, and automotive components. In an iPad Pro case, TPU wraps the edges and corners, statistically the most common impact points during drops, absorbing and dissipating energy before it reaches your tablet. TPU also improves grip, reducing the risk of accidental drops in the first place.
Expert Insight: Co-Molding Both Materials Together
Co-molding fuses polycarbonate and TPU into a single unified case structure. The result is a case that combines rigid impact deflection with flexible shock absorption, something neither material achieves alone. Michael Santoro MacCase founder, President and Chief Creative Officer and multiple award-winning designer, has been creating protective cases for Apple products since he created the market in 1998. Here's his perspective why MacCase he chose co-molded construction:
"A co-molded polycarbonate and TPU protective iPad case offers numerous benefits over a single-material hard case. There are a lot of issues with hard cases cracking over time. Having a protective iPad case with TPU edges and corners eliminates this problem. Moreover, TPU is better at absorbing impacts than PC alone. A dual material, co-molded case provides superior impact resistance, enhanced durability, improved fit, better grip, and cost-effectiveness, making it an excellent choice for anyone looking to protect their iPad comprehensively."

Why should I buy my rugged iPad case from MacCase instead of a mass online marketplace?
Three reasons that matter when something goes wrong. First, MacCase has been designing Apple-specific protection for over 30 years. The rugged case design draws on that accumulated knowledge, not a generic mold shared across dozens of brands. Second, every MacCase product carries a real warranty: 1 year on the Rugged 13" model, 1 year on the 11" model, backed by a company that has been in business long enough to honor it. Third, if you have a question or an issue, call us at 760 729 0620, Monday through Friday, 10am–4pm PST. A human being will answer and talk you through it. That level of support does not exist on mass online marketplaces, where your only option is a return form and a chatbot.

This means the case works identically with both standard glass and nano-texture glass with no modification required.
What is the Protection Rating for these cases?
Both models on this page carry a Protection Rating of 7.4 / 10, scored across Impact, Scratch, Water, and Corner protection using the MacCase weighted rating methodology. How do I install a MacCase hardshell iPad case?
Installation takes about ten seconds. Start by placing the lower left corner of your iPad into the case first, then press gently along the bottom edge until the lower right corner seats into the TPU lip. From there, work your way up and around the right side to the top right corner, then finish at the top left. The TPU edges flex to accept the iPad and grip firmly once seated, no force required. To remove, reverse the process starting from a corner.
