MacPack goes on

This has been my backpack of choice for 5 years, through three different laptop. I love that the laptop sleeves work with the pack, and there's room for nearly everything else imaginable (even a Grid-It for cables). After being in constant use, the stitching has just begun to come loose on the shoulders, which is easily repaired. With a Pro Sleeve it's the perfect Mac backpack.

Expert Insight - 13 MacBook Backpack Design

This is a series of interviews about the story behind the design of MacCase products. For this interview, we are again speaking to MacCase President Michael Santoro about the company's latest version of it's Backpack for 13-inch MacBook Neo, Air and Pro. We asked about what makes this pack unique and why is it special?

He told us:

"The first thing is, we are using rPET nylon to make these 13-inch MacBook Neo, Air and Pro backpack. This material is the toughest I have seen in the 28 years. Moreover, the positive environmental impact cannot be understated."

"Then I took all the areas you touch each time you use the back, areas like the handle and zipper pulls and trimmed them in our ethically sourced premium leather. This takes your MacBook 13 backpack experience to a whole new level."

"People will love these details once they start using them. I wanted a MacBook 13 backpack design that didn't look like you were carrying an expensive laptop. The round organic shape achieves this. This is very important, especially for women. Then added the comfort of our rear padding system and shawl-style straps that channels air between the pads to keep you cool on warmer days."

"Additionally, there are twin reflective inserts on each side of the bag. This is the same material used in road signs and firefighter jackets. It is a high-visibility material designed to make sure you are seen if you happen to be crossing a street in low-light conditions or at night."

"On the inside we created BRIGHTSIGHT 2.0, the next generation of our interior design that allows ambient light to reflect down inside the pack so you can see what you are looking for."

"Many customers have told us that BRIGHTSIGHT removes all the stress of searching for things like keys or their phone at night or in a dark parking garage. It works and after using a BrightSight 2.0 pack for a while you'll never want to go back to using a black-lined pack or bag again."

Backpack with 13-inch Laptop Sleeve

Then we asked about the optional vertically oriented 13" Sleeve that is available. Michael shared:

"The optional Sleeve combined with the built-in laptop compartment inside the pack creates one of the safest environments for your 13" Apple laptop available from anyone at any price. The two pieces can be used together or separately providing more options and a better value for you. Protection, comfort, and even safety, this pack has is it all."

"We chose to make it optional because not everyone would want or need the sleeve. This allows someone to add it to their order if they do and not have to pay for it if they don't. So it's like super-sizing the protection. You get the proven protection of our MacCase sleeve and then that goes into what is already a very protective MacBook Neo, Pro or Air 13 backpack. You can use them separately or together."

"If you have a rolling bag that you want to use and you want to put your 13 Air or Pro in there, you have the sleeve that came with the pack that you can then use to protect your Pro in the roller. If you want to use the MacBook 13 backpack to take to the gym, you leave the sleeve and the computer at home and throw your gym stuff in the pack and you're off to the gym. It's the most versatile backpack out there for the 13" Neo, Air or Pro."

What is the Best Backpack for MacBook Air 13?

MS - The best backpack for MacBook Air 13 is lightweight and protective of both the hardware and the user. It's comfortable and should come with an extended warranty. It excels at doing all of the things you need it to do and does them well.

Our goal was to design a simple, lightweight, protective MacBook Air 13 backpack that answered the needs of someone who needs a pack to go the the coffee shop, to school, for commuting to work or even for day use during extensive travel. While trying to have one product answer all of those needs may seem like a big ask, when you distill it down, the needs are all very similar.

Because I'm not interested in putting junk into the world. There is enough junk in the world. To me, doing products with ultra-short life cycles just shows how little you thought about the design, the problem you were attempting to solve and the solution you reached.

How good can something be if the first thing you do when you complete it is start working on replacing it? The best backpack for MacBook Air 13-inch would not be designed this way.

There are so many examples of products being replaced for the sake of replacing them and the replacement is worse. Is that progress? Is that a good design? Is that making the world a better place or just going through the motions for the sake of the motion itself? That's not interesting to me.

I like to spend time developing the designs, testing, solving the real problem and then see how the world reacts. How can you learn anything if you're not listening? If you're off designing the next version of the thing you just finished, how can you make it better? As I mentioned, our designs have very long life cycles and it seems to work.

JKD - That sounds like a winning combination. Thank you for your time.

Will a MacBook Survive in a Backpack?

The answer to whether your MacBook will survive in a backpack depends on several factors including the type of pack, what else you are carrying, and whether your MacBook is in a sleeve or case before being placed in the pack.

Carrying your MacBook Pro 13-inch in a backpack is a common practice for many users, providing portability and convenience. However, the safety of your Apple laptop within the pack depends on a number of key variables.

Let's delve into the question: Will a 13-inch MacBook survive in a backpack?

Technically, your Apple portable might just fit in that old pack you have lying around. But will it survive in there? That's a different story. A 13-inch Apple laptop is pretty expensive, and you don't want to see yours cracked or dented after one bumpy bus ride.

Think of it this way. Your Mac is like a delicate ballerina, all sleek and powerful but not exactly built for roughhousing. And that backpack? That's more like a mosh pit. Every slam of a textbook, every clink of keys, becomes a potential projectile aimed at the temperamental finish of our Apple portable.

The pressure from notebooks and gym clothes can bend the aluminum housing. And trapped in that non-breathable bag, your Mac becomes its own little sauna, cooking its internal components and draining its battery like crazy.

Cracks, scratches, and internal damage are all too real when your Apple laptop isn't properly protected. Imagine losing all your precious files and projects because of a bumpy bus ride! Heat, pressure, and constant jostling can wear your Mac down faster than you can say "thermal throttling." So, what can you do? Well, you don't have to ditch the pack altogether.

With a velvet interior, a zipperless, open top design, and 8mm perimeter bumper seam tape, the a sleeve-in-sleeve system where your 13-inch MacBook Air contacts nothing but soft, padded material. The rPET nylon exterior scores 9/10 for water resistance. All seams are glued, taped, and sewn.

The padded floor protects contents when the pack is set down hard. The heavy-duty textured bottom panel handles daily surface contact without wear. FAQs

The following are frequently asked questions regarding our 13-inch MacBook backpack for Neo, Air and Pro.

Is the MacCase 13 MacBook backpack good for the MacBook Neo?

Yes, and it's particularly well-suited for it. The MacBook Neo's new Indigo, Blush, and Citrus finishes are stunning but vulnerable. Indigo especially shows scratches as high-contrast white lines against the dark finish. The MacCase 13 MacBook Backpack addresses this directly:

• The Tilt-Away main compartment design prevents the MacBook Neo from contacting zippers during access, the most common scratch source in standard backpacks.

• The optional custom-fitted 13" sleeve adds a second layer of protection, creating a sleeve-in-sleeve design that keeps the Neo's finish pristine.

• The organic round shape of the pack disguises your expensive Apple hardware, no one knows you're carrying a $1,500+ laptop.

• The reflective inserts keep you visible on night commutes. The rPET nylon exterior is tough enough for daily use, cycling, and travel. If you're investing in a MacBook Neo, the MacCase 13 MacBook Backpack is the correct carry solution.

Why MacBook Neo owners should consider both the backpack and the optional sleeve

The MacCase 13 MacBook Backpack and the optional 13" Sleeve are designed to work together, and for MacBook Neo owners, having both covers every travel scenario from a morning commute to an international trip. For daily local use, the backpack is your carry solution.

The pack features a dedicated MacBook compartment, BrightSight interior, Tilt-Away access, air mesh straps, water bottle pocket and reflective inserts. Your Neo is protected, organized, and ready. The organic round shape doesn't advertise what's inside.

Traveling with the MacBook Neo

For travel, the optional 13" sleeve becomes your secret weapon. Pack the Neo in the sleeve, slide it into your roller bag for the flight. The sleeve's zipperless design and velvet interior liner keep the Neo's Indigo, Blush, or Citrus finish pristine inside the roller.

When you land and check the roller into the hotel, pull the sleeve out, slide the Neo into the backpack, and you have a purpose-built day-trip carry solution for wherever you're going. The sleeve-in-sleeve configuration: Neo in the sleeve, sleeve in the backpack, is the highest level of protection available for a 13-inch MacBook.

The Neo never contacts a zipper, a wayward interior item, or another bag's interior. For a laptop with a finish that shows scratches as high-contrast white lines, this matters. One investment covers local commuting, office use, day trips, and international travel. That's the correct way to protect a MacBook Neo.

Combined with the Tilt-Away main compartment that angles open for easier access, the MacCase 13 MacBook Backpack is engineered for real-world daily use.

Is the MacCase 13 MacBook Backpack good for cycling and commuting?

The heavy-duty textured bottom panel handles hard surface placement without wear. The 10-year warranty reflects the durability required for daily commute use.

What Is the optional 13" Sleeve and do I need It?

The optional MacCase 13" Sleeve is a custom-fitted, zipperless sleeve made from rPET nylon with a soft velvet interior liner and 8mm perimeter bumper seam tape. It creates a sleeve-in-sleeve system inside the backpack's dedicated laptop compartment. This is the highest level of protection available for a 13-inch MacBook.

The top-loading, short-axis design provides maximum protection during insertion and removal. The zipperless design eliminates the risk of zipper contact scratching. If you have a MacBook Neo or any MacBook with a finish you want to keep pristine, the sleeve is worth adding.
