Meet Our Leather Apple Pencil Case
While Steve Jobs was never a big fan of input devices, he thought your finger was all you needed, the first generation Apple Pencil was announced on September 9, 2015 alongside the iPad Pro. Creative people loved the idea and like many Apple products, the stylist delivered on the promise.
The second question after "was it any good", was how do I transport and protect it. At $100 a copy, this accessory is not one you want to easily misplace. Many case companies introduced iPad cases that included shoddy, ill conceived notions of how to transport and protect the Apple accessory. Elastic loops on the exteriors of cases were some of the worst.
MacCase chose a much more organic, holistic approach. We elegantly integrated a fully protective case into the front of our Folio design. We even outfitted the cover flap of the Pencil holder with a small magnet to make sure when the stylist was inside, there was no way it was going to come out. This was a revolutionary approach to protecting and transporting the newest Apple accessory.
And it worked brilliantly.
For everyone that needed it. But for those that didn't, that were not using the stylist, the exterior holder was just something in the way. This created an opportunity to recreate our solution for transporting and protecting this $100 accessory.
A Magnetic Apple Pencil Case
With the introduction of a new series of iPad Pro Folio designs, MacCase took the opportunity to re-invent how they provided protection and transported the stylist. The holder sewn to the exterior of each Folio was replaced by a series of strong, round magnets. These elements were fully expressed as part of the design, and not hidden under the leather. Partly because doing so would have negated some of there power.
Now that a platform had been established for connecting a magnetic Apple Pencil case, those that didn't want a case, would be subjected to having one if they wanted a MacCase Folio. Customers could add the newly designed Apple Pencil leather case as they needed or wanted.
Each case is handmade and uses the same full and top grain hides as the Folios. Our leather case for Apple stylist seamlessly integrates onto the front face of your Folio much in the same way the sewn on version did. But because the new design is removably it creates more versatility and opportunity to use it in different ways.
A Stand Alone Apple Pencil Leather Case
What if you work in a digital studio and you want a nice leather case to store your Apple stylist? Because of the built in magnets, the case can be connected to any steel surface such as a task lamp, table leg or table structure. The magnets are strong enough to allow the accessory to be taken out and put back into the case without the case moving about. It makes an excellent all around home for the Apple stylistl when it's not in use.
FAQ -
Q: What MacCase products does this pencil case work with?
A: The case will seamlessly attach to any Folio using the Magnetic Modular Accessory System. These can be identified by the circular exterior magnets sent into the front panel of each case. Here are the links to the compatible iPad Pro Folios -
2018 Gen 3 12.9 iPad Pro Folio
11 iPad Pro Folio
iPad Pro Keyboard Compatible Folios
Of course the Apple Pencil leather case can be carried as a separate item in any one our of other models.
Will this case match my Folio?
Yes. There are no issues with matching the pebble grain black case with the black hides of the Folio. There may be an issue with the Vintage due to the natural variations in the dye lots. The vintage is a raw, unfinished hide and varies from area to area, section to section, even on a given hide.
We do our best to match your Folio if they are purchased together. There is a greater chance of a Vintage case not perfectly matching if the pencil case is purchased after the Folio, due to the patina that the leather takes on over time.
Is your case designed exclusively for the Apple stylist or can I use it for other stylists or even a writing pen?
The case is designed for the Apple accessory but any stylist or writing pen of equal or near equal dimensions will fit.
Will the case fall off my Folio?
The case (along with all our other Folio accessories) has been tested several ways to insure that the magnets have enough power to hold the case to the surface of the Folio under extreme conditions. A shake test was used which can be seen in the accessories video above.
Another test that was done included giving a loaded Folio ((12.9 iPad Pro, Apple Pencil case with stylist, Paper Holder with 6 sheets of 8.5 x 11 paper, Cable Pouch with the AC charger and cable inside and a Card Holder with 10 cards)
to a series of college age runners and having them do 100 meter dashes with the loaded Folio under their arm. No accessories were lost during this test.
