Excellent quality

I wanted a sleeve that would allow me to remove my iPad as quickly as possible in the airport security line. This sleeve is the best I've found. The open top design cannot make is any easier to pull the ipad out or put it back in when in the stressful TSA line. The padding is solid and the edging material seems to absorb any of the bumps and shocks. Nice lining material too. Overall highly recommend.

Would definitely be better with a magnetic closure:)

Thanks for your feedback. When it came time to redesign our sleeve, we spoke to a lot of customers about what they did and did not want. One thing that kept coming up was how to quickly get their iPad in and out of a sleeve when they're on the security line at the airport. This is a high-stress environment. Not having a closure allows you to quickly and easily remove and replace the iPad in this situation. By eliminating a closure, we aimed to allow users to easily take out and put back their iPads in these circumstances. While we've included closures on our sleeves in the past, this is what our customers are requesting now.

MacCase Sleeve Design Timeline

Year
1998MacCase launches the first Apple-specific sleeve for the PowerBook. Jacquard nylon construction (not neoprene), perimeter bumper piping for impact absorption, hook-and-loop closure (no zipper), and a rear cooling vent allowing the processor to cool naturally after use. Signature feature: an Apple logo window that made the Apple logo part of the sleeve design. No other case company had built a sleeve specifically around an Apple portable.
2003MacCase sleeves placed in CompUSA, a Tier-1 national retailer. MacCase goes on to become the top-selling Apple-specific case for the final 3.5 years of the chain's existence, the first independent validation of the Apple-specific sleeve category MacCase created.
2007MacCase launches the Premium Leather Collection, the world's first Apple-specific leather case line. The Premium Leather MacBook Pro Sleeve transposes every feature from the original nylon model into full-grain leather: perimeter bumper piping, hook-and-loop closure, rear cooling vent. Premium materials, same engineering principles.
2010MacCase launches Premium Leather iPad Sleeves at the iPad's introduction. Available in horizontal and vertical orientations. Features perimeter bumper piping and a silent magnetic closure. The first premium leather sleeve purpose-built for Apple's new tablet category.
2015MacCase introduces an integrated underlap Apple Pencil pocket on nylon iPad sleeve models at the Apple Pencil's launch. First iPad sleeve with a purpose-built Pencil pocket.
2016Integrated Apple Pencil pocket incorporated into all Premium Leather iPad Sleeve designs. The Pencil pocket becomes a standard feature across the full MacCase iPad sleeve line.
2017MacCase reinvents nylon sleeve models for MacBook and iPad. Horizontal and vertical open-top designs introduced to facilitate faster, easier transitions through TSA security checkpoints. 8mm seam tape bumper added for edge impact protection.
2021MacCase introduces the Premium Leather Magic Keyboard Sleeve. A purpose-built model to protect and transport the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, Magic Keyboard, and Apple Pencil as a single unit. Features perimeter bumper piping, silent magnetic closure, and integrated Apple Pencil pocket. First sleeve designed around the iPad Pro + Magic Keyboard form factor.
2023MacCase transitions all nylon MacBook and iPad sleeve models to rPET nylon fabric made from recycled plastic water bottles. Same construction, same protection standards, lower environmental footprint.
202613-inch iPad Pro M5 and iPad Air M4 compatibility confirmed across all current MacCase iPad sleeve models.

Additional Information

Zipperless iPad Sleeve Design

Every zipper on every iPad sleeve does the same thing: scratches. Each time the tablet slides past zipper teeth, micro-abrasions accumulate on the finish. These are invisible at first, visible over months of daily use. MacCase has never used a zipper on a sleeve. The open-top design eliminates that contact point entirely. Your iPad goes in and comes out cleanly, every time. At airport security, there is nothing to unzip, unfold, unclip, or unbutton. Your tablet lifts out in one motion. MacCase has been making zipperless sleeves since 1998. In nearly 30 years of production, sleeves have proven to be among the most reliable products we've ever designed. This is due to how our sleeves are constructed, (using our unique sew, glue, wrap, sew again process) and the overall simplicity of the designs. Fewer pieces assembled by hand leaves less to go wrong once in the field.

Why rPET Nylon and Not Neoprene Sleeves

Neoprene is an excellent thermal insulator that's why divers and surfers wear it in cold water. After using your iPad, allowing residual heat to dissipate naturally is preferable to enclosing it in an insulating material. Our open-top rPET sleeve promotes airflow while still protecting your device during transport. MacCase uses rPET nylon which is recycled polyethylene terephthalate made from post-consumer plastic water bottles. Unlike virgin petroleum-based nylon, rPET has recycled content and a responsible end-of-life story. The fabric is lighter than standard nylon, weather-resistant, and soft to the touch. Waste plastic headed for a landfill becomes a lightweight 13-inch iPad sleeve that outlasts the tablet it protects. It's a smart choice for those who want to protect their tablet and the planet.

13-Inch iPad Sleeve: Two Orientations

Most sleeves come in one orientation and leave the buyer to figure out whether it fits their bag. The MacCase 13 iPad Sleeve is available in vertical and horizontal versions because the right orientation depends entirely on how you carry. The vertical version is designed for backpacks with the iPad sliding in portrait orientation, matching the natural layout of a backpack compartment. The horizontal version is designed for messenger bags, briefcases, and tote bags with the iPad sliding in landscape orientation, matching how those bags are accessed. Choose the version that matches your primary carry bag.

Padded iPad Sleeve with Unique Edge Protection

The edges and corners of an iPad are the first points of contact in a drop and the first to show damage. The MacCase 13 iPad Sleeve uses 8mm perimeter seam tape bumpers along every edge not just padding inside the sleeve, but structural reinforcement at the exact points where impact energy concentrates. In production since 2017 with an exceptional track record of zero reported edge or corner impact failures under normal use. Combined with the fully padded interior and non-scratch poly-suede liner, the sleeve protects the iPad from the outside world and from anything else that might cause it harm in the bag you're carrying it in.

What's Better, an iPad Sleeve or an iPad Case?

A sleeve is the right choice when the iPad travels inside a larger bag like a backpack, briefcase, or messenger bag and you prefer to use it "clean" without a case attached. A folio case is the right choice when the iPad is used to watch movies, type or other activities requiring a stand or work-in-case-protection.

MacCase 13-Inch iPad Sleeve for Pro and Air

At MacCase, we have gotten pretty good at creating products that look deceptively simple. But once you start looking at them, reading about them, watching videos and actually using them, you realize how much actual content has been designed in. Our new 13 iPad Sleeve for Pro or Air is just such a product. Whether you choose the horizontal or vertical orientation, the idea behind offering two iPad Sleeve designs was to give you, the customer, a choice. Many of our customers carry vertically oriented bags like a backpack.

Soft iPad Sleeve with Monocoque Construction

While just as many carry a horizontally oriented bag like a messenger bag or a briefcase. By making two different models designed to work with each orientation, you can choose the best orientation to meet your needs and best protect your 13-inch iPad. It looks pretty, and pretty simple but that beauty runs deep. Let's start with the materials. A tough, super durable, nylon keeps water, dust and dirt out. Instead of simply sewing two panels together, the sleeve uses a monocoque-inspired construction inspired by what you find in race car design. This distributes impact around the perimeter while maintaining a clean exterior. The result is a stronger sleeve with fewer stress points. This improves protection and overall build quality. It also allows for a perfectly smooth panel to set the case down on. This makes getting your new Apple tablet in and out a breeze.

What 13 iPad Sleeve Works with Smart Keyboard?

Both MacCase 13 iPad Sleeves are compatible with Smart Keyboard. Apple's popular accessory fits perfectly inside each model when mounted to the 13 along with the Apple Pencil Pro. Whether you are using the Smart Keyboard or not, getting the largest of Apple's tablets into or out of our Sleeves cannot be any easier. We lined the interior with the latest version of our BrightSight 2.0 cyan blue interior fabric. Then lined the exterior with a perimeter bumper seam tape to protect against bumps and knocks. We could go on, but we think you get the idea. Every part on our new sleeve serves a purpose, to protect better, to function easier, to last longer and to be a joy to use.
