Which Material is Right For You
rPet Nylon
MacCase rPET nylon is made from post-consumer recycled plastic bottles, transformed into a lightweight, weather-proof fabric built for daily use. It resists abrasion, repels moisture, and holds its structure over years of carry. The material delivers serious protection with a reduced environmental footprint, without sacrificing the refined look MacCase is known for.
Premium Leather
MacCase leathers are ethically sourced full-grain and top-grain hides selected for consistent grain, density, and long-term durability. Full-grain develops a rich patina with use; top-grain offers a refined, uniform surface. Both are vegetable tanned and finished to exacting standards, producing cases that protect your Apple devices while aging beautifully over years of ownership.

Today MacCase products are sold worldwide, backed by warranties that extend well beyond the typical industry standard and supported directly by our California headquarters. This buyer's guide was compiled from nearly 30 years of customer interactions and firsthand discussions.
Why MacCase Might Cost More Yet Is the Better Value
Most protective cases are designed to a price point. MacCase is designed to a standard. That distinction drives every decision, material selection, construction method, fit tolerance, and what happens when something goes wrong years after purchase. Here is what that means in practice.
The Originators
MacCase didn't adapt to Apple-specific case market, we created it. When the first iBooks shipped, there was nothing designed specifically to protect them. MacCase changed that. We created the category of Apple-specific protective gear, and we've been consistently innovating for nearly 30 years. That singular focus isn't a business decision. It's a conviction. Every Apple portable we've ever protected, from the first iBook and titanium PowerBook to the current M-series MacBook Pro and iPads, has been treated as something worth caring about. Not a generic peice of hardware to be wrapped in generic design made from generic materials, but a precision instrument that deserves protection designed with the same care and passion Apple brought to building it. When you carry a MacCase, you're carrying something made by people who share the same passion for Apple hardware that you do. Read the story of MacCase.
Handcrafted Construction
MacCase products are built by hand, not churned out on a speed line for mass production. That means each product takes longer to create. That means tighter tolerances, better finishing, and a level of quality control that automated manufacturing doesn't allow. And you can feel this every time you pick up or hold a MacCase product. You are constantly reminded that the person who made your case, bag, sleeve or backpack cared.
Proprietary Design Features and Systems
Features like the Sleeve-in-Sleeve Protection System, the Magnetic Accessory System and the Tilt-Away Backpack compartment were developed exclusively by MacCase. They don't exist elsewhere because they weren't licensed. They were invented here to solve specific problems Apple users face. Read more about MacCase design history and innovations.
Premium Materials
Premium materials selected for longevity MacCase uses ethically sourced full-grain and top-grain leathers and rPET recycled nylon. These materials are chosen because they perform better and last longer, not because they reduce unit cost.
Founder Designed
Founder Michael Santoro has designed every MacCase product since the company launched in 1998. There is no design-by-committee, no trend-chasing. Each product reflects Santoro's reach for a timeless aesthetic combined with 28 years of focused thinking about how Apple users actually work and carry. Read more about Micheal Santoro's work.
Warranties We Stand Behind
Most cases are designed to be disposable and are treated as such. MacCase products are designed to endure. They're built to outlast multiple device generations and are backed by a limited lifetime warranty on leather models and a 10-year warranty on nylon models. If something fails, we stand behind it. Have a problem? Call us 760. 729. 0620 Monday–Friday, 10 am–4 pm PST. A real person will answer and help. Unlike most competitors, repair is a genuine option, not just replacement. Find out more about the MacCase warranties.
Singular Focus
MacCase has been making Apple protective gear since 1998. That longevity reflects products that continue to perform and customers who continue to return.
When you add it all up, handcrafted construction, founder-designed fit, proprietary systems, premium materials, and a warranty that actually means something , what you're really buying is a better experience every day you carry it. Not just on day one, but in year three when the leather has developed its patina, in year five when you move to a new MacBook and your MacCase still looks like it belongs with it, or in year ten when a strap needs replacing and it's available. That is what long-term value means. Not the lowest price at purchase, but the best return over time.
FAQs
How long does a MacCase product typically last?
MacCase products are built to outlast multiple device generations. The leathers are selected for long-term durability and develop character with use rather than deteriorating. The rPET nylon resists abrasion and holds its structure over years of daily carry. Leather models are backed by a limited lifetime warranty with nylon models backed by a 10-year warranty and designed to be repaired rather than replaced, a MacCase product is realistically a 10-to-15 year purchase for most customers.
Can I use my MacCase sleeve inside a third-party bag?
Yes. MacCase sleeves are designed to work as standalone carry and as internal protection inside any bag. If you already carry a backpack, tote, or briefcase you love, a MacCase sleeve adds a dedicated protected compartment for your MacBook or iPad without requiring you to change how you carry. For 13-inch iPad and 13-inch and 14-inch MacBooks, MacCase offers lightweight nylon sleeves in two orientations, horizontal or vertical to better match the orientation of your 3rd party bag.
Does MacCase make products for older or discontinued Apple models?
MacCase has been designing Apple-specific cases since 1998 and has covered nearly every MacBook and iPad model Apple has produced. While current production focuses on Apple's active lineup, many MacCase products fit older models that share the same dimensions. If you have an older device, check the internal measurements listed on each product page and compare them to your device dimensions or give us a call at 760- 729 0620 M-F 10am to 4pm and we'll be happy to answer any fit questions.
What is the difference between a folio and a sleeve?
A folio is a "work-in-case" design. A sleeve is not. A sleeve is a single-compartment protective case where your device slides in and the sleeve closes around it. It is designed for protection during transport, typically inside a bag. A folio opens flat like a book and is designed for desk use as well as transport. Folios often include features like auto on/off for the iPad and folding into a stand. If you move between carry and desk use, a folio is the more versatile choice.
How do I care for a MacCase leather product?
MacCase full-grain and top-grain leathers require minimal maintenance. Wipe clean with a dry or lightly dampened cloth. For conditioning, use a quality leather conditioner every six to twelve months depending on use and climate this keeps the leather supple and slows surface wear. MacCase recommends Neatsfoot Oil for our full-grain hides. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and moisture. With basic care, MacCase full-grain leather develops a rich patina over time rather than cracking or fading.
Is a MacCase right for me if I only use my MacBook or iPad at home or at a desk?
Yes. Scratches, dust, and surface damage happen in everyday home, work from home and desk environments not just in transit. A MacCase Hybrid MacBook cover is a work-in-case design perfect for home or desk use. A leather or nylon sleeve protects your MacBook when it is stored on desk, moved between rooms, or placed on surfaces that could scratch the finish. For iPads, a folio keeps your device protected and ready for use in any room in your home or office. Protection is not only for travelers.
What happens if my MacCase product is damaged or needs repair?
MacCase backs its products with a lifetime (leather) or 10-year (nylon) warranty covering defects in materials and construction. If there is an issue, contact MacCase customer service directly. Repair is the first option, not replacement. For leather products, many forms of wear can be addressed through conditioning or professional leather care. MacCase is designed to be a long-term product, and the warranty and repair policy reflect that.
