A few months back I reviewed the retro revival of the MacCase Classic computer case. Originally designed in 1998 for the then-brand-new clamshell iBook. Now offered for the 13-inch MacBook in the full range of classic iBook colors. Both the design and workmanship of the Key Lime Classic Case we tested were impressive. The latest offering from MacCase takes cool and classy to an even higher level.

MacCase’s Premium Leather Flight Jacket has a retro flare as well. This time reaching substantially further back than 1999 to the era between the twentieth-century world wars.

It was a time when aviators wore leather flight jackets to buffer the wind-battering they got in open-cockpit aircraft. I have only seen the Black version in photographs. My provisional take is that the Vintage highlights the design most effectively.

As noted, there are several models to choose from, each respectively custom sized to fit and protect the respective Apple laptop. The quality of the leather work is excellent. The material itself is thick but luxuriously soft, with neatly-done stitching. The computer compartment closure is a fold-over flap with a generous overlap. The compartment itself is generously padded and nicely lined. It's secured with color-matched velcro closures.

The Appeal of This MacBook Pro 16 Carrying Case

While the model I reviewed was the MacCase's made from their popular "vintage" brown hides, there is no denying the timeless professionalism of a black leather MacBook Pro 16 carrying case. 

In this regard, MacCase also delivers. The Flight Jacket has a perfectly proportioned front face. The main flap constitutes about 50% of the front of the bag with the lower half making up the other 50%. When executed in the black hides, the bag looks modern, professional, and elegant. 

If you work in a world where you're putting on a suit or sporting "business casual" every day, the black version of this bag is a perfect match for you. It can hold everything you need but it will never feel bulky. The streamlined, compact design won't allow for bulk. 

The timeless proportions combined with the classic, pebble-grained, black hides makes a statement in the same way the vintage model does but that statement is unique to that color and finish. It's amazing how the same design can make two related, yet completely different statements depending on the hides used.

MacBook Pro Laptop Case Functionality

The MacBook Pro laptop case has several storage pockets for accessories. A removable, customized pouch for a MacBook Air Super Drive or AC adapter for the larger Pro models.

On the outer face of the flap is a full-width zipper-closure pocket. It's lined with nylon fabric over what feels like a thin layer of foam padding. Under the flap cover on the front of the main body of the case is another pocket. It's also taffeta-lined and with its own dedicated central Velcro closure.

There is another deep, open pocket on the backside of the case. The computer compartment is lined with a soft knit fabric and has somewhat heavier protective padding. The shoulder strap or backpack harness attach to the Flight Jacket with hefty, swivel-mounted spring clips. Both attach to riveted, sewn-in stainless steel D-rings.

Overall this Apple laptop case is a thing of beauty and highly recommended.
