The latest in a series of interviews about the story behind the design of MacCase products. For this interview, we are speaking to MacCase President Michael Santoro about the new MacCase 2020 iPad Pro 12.9 4th Generation Case.
JKD: So what is new for the 2020 4th generation iPad Pro Folio?
MS: What we have going in is really an evolution of our very successful first generation design. In 2018 we moved to a Folio design that features a polymer tray. This as groundbreaking and re-invented iPad Pro protection for users looking for a premium experience. We're using this opportunity to build upon the success of the 2018 designs.
At the same time we introduced our Magnetic Accessory System. This was groundbreaking innovation number two for these new Folios. This suite of options has been incredible successful offering customers the chance to expand the functionality of their case with a Pencil case, comment holder, business card holder and accessory pouch.
For the 2020 model, were offering a 5th option. This is to not have the Magnetic Accessory System at all. If you never plan on using the optional accessories, you don't need the magnets. So we're offering a "clean" design with a magnet free front cover. It's very elegant.
Designing the 12.9 iPad Pro 4th Generation Case
JKD: Yes, let's talk about that. What does that mean for the new 12.9 iPad Pro 4th generation case? Or cases? Tell us about the 2 versions.
MS: As a designer and artist first, I always want things to look the best they can. I believe one of the reasons we have stayed in business over 25+ years is the timeless aesthetic our products process. It doesn't matter whether it's a Premium Leather model or one of our nylon pieces, the design vocabulary is the same. The values and the things we strive for are the same. Customers appreciate this.
JKD: How does the new "clean", magnet free design improve customer satisfaction?
MS: It's really about choice. We're all customers and consumers in one form or another. How did Getty Lee put it, "Each another's audience". We improve customer satisfaction by offering a choice to use our accessories or not. If you're not, you now have an option to purchase one of our world class Folios without the magnets that make the attachment of the accessories possible.
